Year 13 Students to Learn from Home from Wednesday 16 March 2022
Kia ora Waimea College whānau,
In our update last Friday, I shared that as we work through the current Omicron outbreak we are closely monitoring our staffing levels to determine if we need to continue to roster home year levels for Online Distance Learning.
At present 21 staff are currently away 13 of which are COVID-related absences. We have therefore made the decision to roster home Year 13 students for Online Distance Learning.
From Wednesday 16 March: Year 13 Learning From Home.
Other year levels are to attend school as usual.
Year 13 are likely to be learning from home for a 5-day period from Wednesday 16 March returning to school on Wednesday 23 March, however this decision will be reviewed on Friday 18 March.
If your teen has any queries regarding online learning please reach out to their teachers or Deans.
All Year 13’s will be considered to be “attending” and learning from home unless parents advise us otherwise (i.e. they are sick). In the same way, we wouldn’t expect your teen to complete schoolwork normally while they are sick, we wouldn’t expect them to engage in distance learning either. Of course, they should still be prepared to catch up and review missed work once their health improves.
Trades Academy will continue to operate this Friday 18 March.

Returning to school following isolation
As you will be aware the isolation period for COVID positive cases and Household Contacts has been reduced to 7 days.
However, please note, following a positive result, if on Day 8, when your teen is due to return to school, they are still unwell or symptomatic they should remain at home until 24 hours after symptoms resolve. They no longer require a negative test in order to return to school. If on Day 8 your teen is well, with no symptoms they can return to school.
Household Contacts of a positive case need to return a negative test on Day 3 and Day 7 in order to return to school on Day 8. For more information see HERE.
