Overview

The Library is a vibrant hub of our school, with spaces for meetings, silent reading, playing games, quiet study, browsing books and a computer suite. We encourage students to be inquisitive and critical users of digital and physical texts, becoming confident learners.

Find your next book from our catalogue

We have a wide range of magazines, ebooks, audio books, fiction and non-fiction books to borrow. Use the OPAC to browse the collection and reserve books that are already on loan. Go to OPAC page

8am – 4:30pm Monday – Thursday 8am – 4pm  Friday
Library Orientation
All new students receive a Library orientation session. If you missed this lesson or need a reminder about some of the information delivered in this session email library@waimea.school.nz with your questions or to request a copy of the guide to our Library.
Book recommendations
Our well qualified Librarians are exceptionally good at getting books into the hands of readers. We welcome book suggestions and can provide help with selecting appropriate books for reading responses.

Research help
Email library@waimea.school.nz to request help with your research or to book in for a research interview with a Librarian.
OPAC lessons
All Junior students receive lessons in how to use the OPAC our online catalogue of books. If you would like help with using the OPAC email us at library@waimea.school.nz with your questions.
Competitions

We host a number of competitions throughout the year and support our Year 9 and 10 students to particpate in the Readers’ Cup National Competition.

Student Librarian Programme
We welcome students from Year 9 through to Year 13 to join us as Student Librarians. Many of our Student Librarians have been with us since they started at Waimea College in Year 9. This role involves a range of tasks and training is provided. Pop in to the Library and pick up an application form or email Library@waimea.school.nz for more information.
Furniss Teece Computer Suite
The computer suite is available for use to complete school work before, during and after school. It is also available to be booked for classes. For more information email library@waimea.school.nz
Learning from home

If you are learning or working from home and would like help with research or borrowing books, email library@waimea.school.nz and we can guide you through the Library website and discuss a click and collect service.
