Update: Saturday 20 August

Aug 19, 2022

Our thoughts are with everyone in our community impacted by flooding.

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

The last few days have seen unprecedented levels of rainfall and, in particular, we’ve seen a huge amount of rain overnight that has caused multiple areas in the Waimea College catchment to be impacted by flooding.

Do you need support?

For those of you that have been impacted by the significant weather over the past 48 hours, our thoughts are with you all. We are aware of staff and students that have had to evacuate, and many others are managing damage to their properties. Please reach out to us if you need help and we will support you in any way we can.

Waimea College is hopeful of reopening on Monday 22 August – but watch for further updates.

We are hopeful that Waimea College will be able to reopen on Monday 22 August, however we will continue to monitor the situation and will continue to follow the advice from local authorities about when it is safe to reopen.

We understand that travel around the region may still be difficult for some.

Please assume school is operating as usual on Monday 22 August, unless you receive further updates directly from us.

Stay safe out there.
