Homestay Co-ordinator

Annitta2

Greetings to you, my name is Annitta Hodgkinson and I am the homestay co-ordinator for Waimea College, I co-ordinate the accommodation needs and pastoral care of international students.

A homestay co-ordinator is responsible for finding you the best homestay that matches your wishes and works toward this being a successful and memorable experience for you and your host family, where you build long lasting friendships.

I am here to ensure you are happy in your homestay and wider community and if you have any questions or concerns, then I am here to help you.

I am described by the international students as their school mum. I offer you care, support, as well as a safe and friendly place at school.

I am married and have two adult sons and an adult daughter, all who have attended Waimea College; so I know the school and understand the needs of teenagers and the challenges that you can sometimes face. I am available to help you with any concerns at school on Monday - Friday 8:30am - 3-00pm.

When choosing a homestay it is very helpful to know as much about you as possible. Please consider the following questions so I am able to make the best possible placement for you:

  • Do you like young children or would you prefer a family with no children?
  • Do you like animals? (lots of New Zealand families have a cat or a dog or sometimes they might have both).
  • Are there any foods you are allergic too or any don't like? What foods do you like most?
  • Are you religious and is it important to you to be able to attend services?
  • What are your favourite things to do in your spare time, do you have a favourite sport?
  • Would you like to try a new activity or sport whilst in New Zealand?

For student placements the best families are chosen to host for us, these families are all different.  There may be a mother, father and younger children,a mother and father with grown up children or no children.  There may also be a mother raising her children on her own or a mother who has children who are no longer at home. Please consider this when completing your homestay application.  All our host families are Police checked and we have a vigorous evaluation in place twice a year while they host students.

It is advisable that you arrive approximately 4 - 5 days prior to starting at Waimea College, so you are well rested and ready to start your course.

I know you are going to have a wonderful time while you are here and I look forward to meeting you soon.

Yours sincerely,

Annitta.
